Gender Equality Index

Completing the Revolution: The Leading Indicators

How do we know how Britain is measuring up on the gender equality stakes and whether we're on track to complete the unfinished social revolution highlighted in our Gender Agenda?

We have put together an index based on the leading indicators of gender equality. These indicators demonstrate the health of the nation in terms of gender equality across all areas of life, not only at work - and suggest where we need to focus our efforts in the years to come if we're serious about change. The indicators will also provide us with a baseline against which we can measure progress in the future.

The index shows that in some instances, we’re heading in the right direction -the situation is improving. But more often progress has been painfully slow and there is much more we could do to speed up the pace of change, otherwise our children's children will still be grappling with many of the same challenges. In other areas, the index suggests the agenda has stalled, or worse yet we’re actually going backwards. Unless further action is taken, nothing will ever change.
